Stakel's gaze met his and he saw an emotion strangely like love sparkling in the man's dark eyes. He leaned forward, not fighting the urge to kiss Stakel's lips, but Stakel turned to stare up at the statue of Xasel behind the altar.

" Life and soul I pledge to you, Xasel, High God and Creator. "

He shut his mouth and stiffened. How had Stakel known the oath every Custos spoke before the flame?

Stakel turned to look at him, placing their hands over his own heart.

" Heart and body I pledge to you, Imperator, Leader of the ducenti.

Everything I am exists for you Until Xasel calls us home. "

The flame shot high into the air, burning bright white for a second before settling back to the same small flicker. Rathian knew what he had to do.
